By now, most of us are all aware of Black History Month but did you know Black History Month was first proposed by black educators and the Black United Students at Kent State University in February 1969? Black History Month’s first celebration took place at KentState one year later, from January 2 to February 28, 1970.
Six years later, BlackHistoryMonth was being celebrated throughout the United States when President Gerald Ford recognized Black History Month in 1976, during the United States Bicentennial celebration. Gerald Ford urged Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
This year for Black History Month, LA Cannabis Co wanted to highlight some of the great Black-Owned Businesses in the area that we consider a “Must Try,” and we would like to invite you to add to the list in the comments below.Â
