Keeping up with self-care in the winter can often feel a lot like nailing jello to a tree.
Making time for self-care is tough year-round. But, when the temperatures drop, the holiday fun is over, and there are still short days, a lot of people get a case of the “winter blues” or even Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) / Seasonal Depression.
When this happens, it’s usually a sign we have put our overall well-being toward the back of our minds.
With that being said, here are some winter self-care tips for stoners that will help you get through these cold months and return the focus to yourself and your overall well-being.
1. Go outside at least once per day.
It’s tempting to smoke inside all day where it’s warm. But, it would be best if you got some sunlight. Take one (or two!) of your favorite pre-rolls and head outside for a walk to take in some natural sunlight. The days are shorter during winter, which means there is less sunlight. This can be a trigger for those who are prone to seasonal depression or the winter blues.
2. Remember to hydrate.
Considering the cold temperatures outside, it’s only natural to drink more hot beverages during the winter months — especially coffee. This, combined with numerous bong rips and the drying weather, is a recipe for dehydration. Be aware of how much water you’re drinking, and make sure you’re staying well-hydrated. This will also help keep the awful cotton mouth at bay.
3. Get plenty of sleep.
Having fewer hours of sunlight during the winter months can make it difficult to feel awake and perky throughout the day. Staying well-rested is the key to making these cold months feel more manageable. Relax with an indica before bedtime to drift off into a comfortable, deep slumber. Wake and Bake with sativa to start the day on an uplifting, euphoric note. Hit the bong in the afternoon with a sativa hybrid for a quick pick-me-up.
4. Cozy up to your environment
Create a cozy, inviting winter environment within your home by doing a little bit of decorating. Get some shag accents, like a throw blanket or accent pillow. For a stonerific addition, pick up a rug like the Buddy Nug Rug by Dazed Society. Add some seasonal scents with candles or incense. Create centerpieces for your tables with faux pot leaves and candles. Use white fairy lights / Christmas lights to decorate and add ambiance to the room. You can do so many things to cozy up your environment, which will create a sense of calm and give you a great place to sesh.
5. Treat yourself to a nice dinner when the munchies hit
You’re an adult; you can treat yourself to a nice dinner without a specific reason if you really want to. Being nice to yourself and treating yourself well will make you happier. So, next time the munchies hit, order up a nice dinner for yourself via UberEats or DoorDash and enjoy it in your new cozy winter environment.
6. Take a relaxing bath with THC
Baths are one of the most relaxing things you can do and one of the best winter self-care tips for stoners. When paired with a THC bath bomb, a pre-roll, and good music, baths are one of the most luxurious ways to pamper yourself.
7. Cook a medicated meal
Using Canna Butter, you can easily cook up a medicated meal for yourself. Cooking is relaxing and fun, and enjoying something you made gives a sense of accomplishment. Plus, it’s a medicated meal, so you’re going to get nice and stoned as you eat. What more could you ask for, honestly?
8. Read about weed
Reading is one of the best self-care activities, so why not put a stoner spin on it and read something about weed! Our blog is a great place to start, with posts that range from entertaining and interactive (such as a fun quiz) to more serious and informative. If you’re looking for something to cozy up with as you smoke the night away, our blog is the place to begin.
9. Take yourself to a movie — at home
Movie theaters may be closed right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a movie night — and a stonerific one! Pick some stoner movies off Netflix or Hulu, or from your own collection, gather up snacks and some candy (we recommend the Kiva Confections Milk Chocolate Bar), and get cozy in front of the television with your favorite blanket and bong.
10. Have a stoney meditation session
Meditation doesn’t just give you some peace and serenity so you can reflect and unwind. It’s also an easy way to treat yourself better. Continuous mindful meditation can help you destress, let go of past hurt, improve your empathy, be more compassionate, and help you become calmer overall.
11. Give all of your glass a thorough cleaning
Okay, so maybe not all of your glass needs cleaning. But, it’s time for the dirty pieces to get some TLC. Give them a thorough cleaning with your favorite cleaner or the trusty combo of rubbing alcohol and coarse salt. It can be easy to slip into lazy habits during the cold months, but keeping your glass clean is important for keeping nasty germs at bay.
12. Set resolutions or goals for the new year
It’s the beginning of the year, which means it’s a great time to set some goals for yourself to accomplish this year. This could be something like being able to dab a full gram or clearing your biggest bong in one hit. Perhaps it’s to try all of the strains by a certain brand – browse our menu! – that you possibly can in one year.
13. Make a big change
This could be something like splurging on a heady piece from a new glass shop or dispensary, switching from indicas to sativas, or getting the haircut you’ve always wanted. It could be something even bigger, like packing everything up and moving closer to your favorite Los Angeles dispensary. Whatever change you’ve been sitting on making, now is the time to do it.
